The Unread Document

I heard a great talk from Alec Sharp at a conference last month, where he shared the story of possibly the ultimate in un-read documents.

An analyst was suspicious that his readers were not actually reading his documents before they were signed-off. Now I have, in the past, put little jokes or strange text into documents, just to check that readers were actually reading my documents.

But this chap went one stage further.

He embedded the full text of Moby Dick in his document.

And it got signed off....

Don't let this be you! Make your documents small, readable and relevant. Or don't produce a document at all..
